Day 1
So it begins... I am officially going on a fitness journey. Like we all do at the beginning of the year, I told myself that 2018 was going to be 'my year'! I was going to lose that 3 stone I've wanted to lose for ages, and finally be happy with how I look.
Well we are in October and I weigh the same (if not more) as I did at the beginning of the year. So you could say that it's not going great.
There have been a number of reasons for this, and to be fair to myself, I've had to focus a lot on my mental health this year. So my physical health has kind of been put on the back burner. However, I have booked a holiday to Las Vegas at the end of January, and this ladies and gentleman will be my weight loss motivation. I've got just over 13 weeks to transform my attitude towards fitness, and hopefully lose at least 1 stone in the process.
I calculated that if I lose 2lbs a week over this period, I could lose 26lbs by the time I fly off to Vegas, which is well on my way to losing the 3 stone that I want to. But as well all know, we can calculate and plan as much as we want, but it doesn't always work out that way.
Primarily I need to do the two basic things that any person will tell you to do to lose weight (that isn't trying to sell you something that is). Eat healthily with a calorie deficit, and exercise. So you know what? That's exactly what I'm going to do.
My aim is to go to the gym and complete 1 hour of cardio every morning before work on weekdays. I'll also try to get to the gym on a Saturday before I start completing my usual weekend tasks and errands, then make sure that I have Sunday as a rest day. At the weight I currently am, completing purely cardio for at least 5 hours per week should definitely help me on my way to losing weight.
Later on in the year, or maybe in January, I may incorporate weight training into my routine to help with toning, but for now, it's all about cardio. I need to up my fitness levels, and get myself moving. Ensuring that I am doing my 10,000 steps everyday! (Thank you Fitbit!)
So what is happening right now? Well yesterday I started a 7-day Slimfast diet plan. I'm using this purely as a way to get myself back into the 'diet' mind frame. Personally, I find it a lot easier to be motivated with fitness and weight loss if I start off in a strict frame of mind.
After this week of completing Slimfast, I'll then transfer over to the 'diet plan' that I have put together for myself. I say it's a 'diet plan' but it's really just healthy eating. I've never had a trouble eating 'healthy' foods - I was raised eating meat, vegetables and fruit from a young age, and actually enjoy eating them as well. However, like most people do, sometimes I slip into the junk food and find it very hard to get out of it.
Well today I am doing that, and I really think that keeping a diary will help me along the way. Whether what I write is good or bad, I'm going to try to at least complete one entry every day. I find it a great way to stay motivated - especially if I'm having a bad day. Being able to look back at how far I've come is a great resource for staying on track.
So that's pretty much it. That's the theory. Now I've just got to put it into practice. Tomorrow will be my first trip to the gym in about 3 weeks, and I'm planning to do an hour on the cross trainer whilst watching some YouTube videos to pass the time. See you after then!
